How To Prep Your Lips For Matte Lipstick

Many people shy away from matte lipsticks due to their tendency to be drying. While these lipsticks can provide a striking, long-lasting color, achieving the perfect application can be challenging. If not applied correctly, matte lipsticks can lead to a look that feels uncomfortable and appears uneven, which can detract from your overall makeup aesthetic.

However, with the right techniques, you can master the art of applying matte lipstick and enjoy its bold, sophisticated finish. Here are some essential steps to help you achieve a flawless look.

Exfoliate your lips

Start by exfoliating your lips to remove dry and dead skin, revealing fresh, smooth skin underneath. You can use a sugar scrub for gentle exfoliation, which will effectively slough away any flakes, or opt for a dry toothbrush to buff away rough patches. This step not only prepares your lips for makeup but also enhances their overall texture and appearance.

Moisturize

After exfoliating, the next step is to moisturize your lips. Apply a nourishing lip balm or Vaseline to hydrate and soften your lips. This helps fill in any fine lines and creates a smooth surface for lipstick application.

A well-moisturized base not only enhances the appearance of your lips but also improves the wear of your lipstick, preventing it from clinging to dry patches. Allow the product to absorb for a few minutes before moving on to your lipstick to ensure the best results. Your lips will be prepped and ready for a flawless matte finish!

Line your lips

Use a lip liner to outline your lips first. This creates a defined border, allowing you to color inside the lines, much like coloring in a picture. By doing this, you’ll prevent any smudging or feathering of your lipstick, ensuring a clean and polished look.

Choose a lip liner that matches your lipstick shade for the best results, and carefully trace along your natural lip shape. This step not only enhances the longevity of your lipstick but also helps you achieve a more precise and professional finish.

Apply the matte lipstick

Carefully apply the matte lipstick, ensuring you stay within the lines of your lip liner. This attention to detail helps create a polished and defined look. However, don’t worry if you accidentally go outside the lines; it’s easy to fix. Simply use a small makeup brush or a cotton swab dipped in concealer to clean up any mistakes, ensuring a crisp finish. Taking your time during this step will help you achieve that perfect matte lip look!

Conceal

Use a concealer to clean up any mistakes made during your lipstick application. Take a small brush or a cotton swab and dip it into the concealer. Gently trace around the edges of your lips to correct any smudges or uneven areas. This step ensures a crisp, defined look and helps your lips appear perfectly polished. Blending the concealer seamlessly into your foundation will create a flawless finish, enhancing your overall makeup look.

I hope these steps make applying matte lipstick easier and more enjoyable for you. With a little practice and the right techniques, you’ll achieve a stunning, flawless finish every time!
