Sweet Ghanaian Bofrot Recipe

Bofrot, also known as puff puff, is a popular Ghanaian fried dough snack that’s light, fluffy, and slightly sweet. Perfect for breakfast with koko (spiced millet porridge), as a snack during the day, or served warm for dessert, this golden treat is a must-try African classic.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon dry active yeast

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Slowly add warm water and mix until a smooth, thick but pourable batter forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 1–2 hours until the dough doubles in size.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil.
  6. Fry for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!
